1. Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon, located in northern Arizona, is at the top of our list of best RV destinations. The Grand Canyon is a bucket list type of place everyone should try to see at some point in their lives and is one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. In addition, it is one of the largest canyons in the world, measuring 270 miles long and 18 miles wide (some of which you can explore on mules).
Researchers believe the canyon was formed 5 to 6 million years ago and contains some of the oldest rocks on earth. When you’re there, look for the trails and overlooks to get the best view of the canyon. There is also a geological museum to check out while you’re there. The museum provides facts about the canyon and the types of rock you’ll encounter there.
2. Garden of the Gods
Next on our list of places you must-see when you head out on an RV adventure is the Garden of the Gods. The Garden of the Gods is a public park (technically designated a national natural landmark) located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Thanks to its proximity to plenty of national parks, it is the perfect stop and fairly centrally located while hitting all of the best RV destinations in the United States.
With many unique rock formations, scientists believe a geological upheaval occurred millions of years ago, creating the geological formations. Activities the Garden of the Gods offers include hiking, sightseeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and horseback riding—a great excuse to get out of your RV and stretch your legs for a few days.
3. Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is another place you must try to see. Did you know it was the world’s first national park? Spanning a large portion of Wyoming and spilling over into Montana, the most popular attraction at Yellowstone National Park is the Old Faithful geyser. It is a predictable geothermal feature that erupts every few hours.
Other attractions to see while at Yellowstone National Park include:
● The Upper Geyser Basin: This area has the highest concentration of geysers anywhere in the world. It is also home to the Morning Glory Pool, a hot spring.
● Lamar Valley: A great area to view wildlife, such as large herds of bison and bald eagles. Other wildlife you might see in Lamar Valley are bears and wolves.
● Mount Washburn: Take the Mount Washburn hike to see the beautiful views overlooking the park.
Exploring Yellowstone means you’ll also have access to view a mud volcano, hot springs, and lakes.
4. Mount Rushmore
If you haven’t seen Mount Rushmore in real life, it is a great place to stop on your RV vacation. Surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills in South Dakota, it features a massive sculpture of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
While you’re there, visit some of the nearby attractions the area offers. Some of them include:
● Badlands National Park
● Custer Wildlife Loop
● Wind Cave National Park
That entire area is full of wildlife sightseeing and national parks. It’s well worth the drive to see Mount Rushmore thanks to all the other nearby attractions.
5. Zion National Park
Zion National Park is the first designated national park in Utah. Its most famous hike is Angels Landing, which now requires a permit to hike, thanks to its exponential popularity with tourists. There are so many activities you can do while at Zion National Park, including:
● Backpacking
● Bicycling
● Birding
● Camping
● Rock-climbing
● Hiking
● Horseback riding
You can also take river trips or scenic drives through the Kolob Canyons. By the end of the day, you can watch the sunset as it shines light on Zion’s cliffs. Once the light is completely gone, the park is great for stargazing.
